Tijuana will be second team from Mexico to join M2 for 2022-23 season

TAMPA, Fla. -- Major Arena Soccer League 2 will welcome its second Mexico-based franchise to fill out its 15-team roster for the 2022-23 season.

Club Deportivo de Baja California will join five other teams – including nearby San Diego and Ontario, California – in making up a now six-team Western division. The team will be based in Tijuana, Mexico, under the guidance of Baja Sports Ventures LLC, but will play some home games across the border in San Diego.

“Mexico has a growing relationship with professional indoor soccer and as we have seen with teams in the MASL, fans are loud and passionate, so we are thrilled to be able to add a second international side to M2,” said League Commissioner Chris Economides. “As the MASL continues to expand their footprint south of the boarder, following their lead in M2 is just one more vital way we continue to strengthen our relationship with each other.”

This season, the both the MASL and M2 will feature two teams from Mexico. The Chihuahua Savage will field teams in both leagues, while the Monterrey Flash will also play in the MASL.

Tijuana will join the Sockers 2, Empire Jets (rebranded from Ontario Fury 2), Chihuahua, Turlock, and the RGV Barracudas in the west. They will play a 12-game regular season, with all games within their division.

The league will be releasing a final schedule in the coming days, and Tijuana will be finalizing a logo and coaching staff in the coming weeks as well. For more information on M2, visit m2soccer.com.
