Player/Coach Hughes Has Big Game As Emergency Goalkeeper
Galbraith-Knapp And Myers Tally Two Goals Each As San Diego Takes Control Of Western Conference

SAN DIEGO (Sunday, December 17, 2017 - #17- MR03) – The San Diego Sockers 2 (3-0) downed the Arizona Impact, 9-1, at Valley View Casino Center in a Major Arena Soccer League 2 match. Player/coach Jeff Hughes was the emergency goalkeeper and earned his first career win.

San Diego’s offense made it easier for Hughes, who was a last-minute replacement for the ailing Jean Antione, by scoring seven first-half goals. Hughes, who regularly plays defender, suited up and made seven saves on the nine Arizona shots and also scored a goal in first period.

The Sockers 2 were led by Eli Galbraith-Knapp’s two goals and two assists. He scored twice in the second period after Sean Callahan, Rafa Aguilar, and Evan Myers tallied. Myers scored two markers in the period. San Diego led 7-0 at halftime.

Arizona played last night in Ontario, and it showed. Both teams slowed the pace in the second half. Hughes was on his way to an improbable shutout, but the Impact stifled those plan with a goal by Ivan Acuna at the 3:43 mark of the fourth. San Diego’s Jared Hegardt added a late goal to warp up the victory.

San Diego returns to MASL 2 action on December 30, 7:35 p.m., for a game against the Fury II in Ontario.
