Seven games this weekend, including debut of champion Crunch, highlight Week 5
TAMPA, Fla. -- Week five is the busiest so far in the still young Major Arena Soccer League 2 season, with seven total games highlighted by the debut of the 2020-21 M2 champion Cleveland Crunch Friday night in Muskegon.
The Colorado Inferno will also be making their 2021-22 debut this weekend when they travel to Wichita for a doubleheader against the Wings at Hartman Arena. The Turlock Express will also open their 12-game regular season when they go on the road for games in San Diego and Ontario.
The Crunch won its fourth pro indoor soccer title -- and first in more than 20 years -- when they defeated the Wings last July in the M2 title game. Muskegon comes into the contest 1-1, and is led by Ryan Zietlow with five goals and one assist on the season. The Risers will stay right at Mercy Arena for a visit by the Chicago Mustangs Saturday night. Chicago, 1-0, is led by Alex Gomez and Nestor Dominguez who have three points each
New Mexico will be looking to break into the win column when they host Omaha on Saturday. The Runners feature M2's leading goal scorer Alejandro Garcia who has 10 goals, and leading points getter as well with 12. Omaha will look to improve to 3-1 behind an offense led by Murilo Ceruli who has four goals and four assists in three games. Expect plenty of offense as this is the third meeting of the season between the two, with the Kings winning previously by scores of 15-10 and 13-12.
Colorado debuts in Wichita, with the Wings leading the midwest division at 2-0, and led by Bransyn Felty who has six goals in their two wins.
Ontario will be looking for its first win after a couple of losses against San Diego when Turlock visits. The Fury 2's Bryan Quintanilla leads Ontario with two goals. The Express will turn their attention to the San Diego Sockers 2 for a matchup Sunday to close the weekend. The Sockers lead the west at 2-0, and are led by Ismael Rojo's four goals in those two starts.
