Omaha trip to Amarillo will determine final playoff position for M2's 'Championship Weekend'

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Omaha Kings come into this weekend's game on a three-game Major Arena Soccer League 2 win streak.

The reward for making it four in a row will be an invitation to the M2 playoffs next month in Wichita.

The Kings will travel to Amarillo for a 4 p.m. (CST) start against the Bombers, the lone game on the M2 docket this weekend. But it couldn't have higher stakes.

An Omaha win clinches the fourth and final playoff M2 playoffs spot for the 2021 season. However, if Amarillo prevails, the Chicago Mustangs will slide into the final spot for "Championship Weekend" which will be held July 17 and 18 at Hartman Arena in Wichita.

Amarillo, along with Wichita and Cleveland have already secured their playoff spots by winning the Rocky Mountain Invitational, Heartland Invitation and Great Lakes Invitational series of games held earlier this season.

With final standings based on winning percentage for 2021 only since all teams are not able to play the same number of games, Omaha would finish its season 7-7. Chicago, which has already completed its regular season at 5-5, also sits at .500. However, based on head to head results, with Omaha taking two of three matchups against the Mustangs this season, the Kings would earn the final post-season spot.

Amarillo is led by Vitor Patriani, who has 19 points in seven games, while the Kings high flying offense is paced by Ali Sodal, second overall in the league in scoring with 25 points, including 19 goals.
