Omaha or Amarillo will punch final ticket to M2 playoffs as regular season comes to a close

TAMPA, Fla. -- Either the Omaha Kings or Amarillo Bombers will be the final team to earn a trip to Major Arena Soccer League 2 playoff action as five teams overall end their regular seasons this weekend.

Omaha (6-3) has a half-game lead on Amarillo (6-5) for the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Division, and those two will meet on Sunday, March 27, the final game of the regular season.

However, the Kings can clinch a playoff spot before their trip to Texas as they will start their three-games-in-three-days weekend with a home and home series against the 1-9 Colorado Inferno. The Kings will be home on Friday night (7 p.m. CDT start) before heading to Colorado Springs for a 7 p.m. MDT start against the Inferno on Saturday.

If the Kings split the games, Amarillo could claim that playoff spot by winning, and having a bigger goal differential than Omaha. A Bombers win means both teams would finish 7-5, and the first tie-breaker of head to head results would be one win each for both teams. The next tiebreaker is goal differential. Coming into the weekend, Omaha is at +26 in that category while Amarillo sits at a +10.

The Turlock Express and RGV Barracudas will close out their seasons with a pair in Turlock as RGV gets ready for its quarter-final playoff game against the San Diego Socers April 3 in San Diego.

Saturday's game starts at 7 p.m. PDT and Sunday's kickoff will be at 3 p.m. PDT

The defending-league champion Cleveland Crunch have earned a berth to the M2 Championship Weekend by virtur of their No. 1 overall seed following a perfect 12-0 regular season. They will get to pick their semi-final round opponent from the three teams that win their quarter-final matchup. The other two teams will then be paired against each other in a semi-finals doublehead on Friday, April  8 at Mercy Health Arena in Muskegon which will also be the site of the Championship game on Sunday, April 10
