Omaha makes a statement by sweeping weekend series from Chicago Mustangs

OMAHA, Nebraska -- Don't look now, but the Omaha Kings have roared back to life with a weekend sweep of the Chicago Mustangs.

The host Kings followed a 12-9 win Saturday with a nail-biting 7-6 decision over the Mustangs on Sunday to improve to 3-5 on the season. Chicago trailed 7-3, but scored three straight in the fourth quarter -- the final one with over three minutes left to play -- but Omaha stopped the rally right there to pick up the triumph.

James Thayer and Daniel Zuckweiler each had two goals for the Kings, who also got single markers from Morgan Penn, Ali Sodal and Bobby Jaffrey. Zuckweiler got the game winner with just 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter which gave the Kings a 7-3 lead before Alex Gomez,, Leo Acosta and Benjamin Suddeth all found the back of the net to make it a one-goal game. 

Chicago, now 3-3, got additional goals from Acosta and Suddeth, and a singleton from Nathaniel Enriquez.

The two teams had a wild affair Saturday, with the Kings setting the tone for the weekend with a 12-9 win, despite a five-goal night from Chicago's Acosta.

Sodal and Zuckweiler each had hat-tricks as Omaha erased a 7-5 Chicago lead with six straight goals in the second half. The game was tied on five different occasions, the last time at 7-7.

Murilo Ceruli and Leonides  and Meija each scored twice while teammates James Thayer, Sebastian Contreras added a goal apiece.

Adrian Ortiz had three goals for Chicago and Gomez added a single score.

The Kings, 3-5,  will be back on the road next weekend for a pair of games in Cleveland against the Crunch. Tickets are available at theclevelandcrunch.com website. Chicago has a doubleheader weekend coming up as well as they host the Wichita Wings May 8 and 9.
