Omaha Kings FC have most memorable M2 debut, rallying for wild 11-9 win over Amarillo

The Omaha Kings FC will hopefully play indoor soccer for a long, long time, but it might be hard to have a more memorable game than their Friday night debut in Major Arena Soccer League 2.

The Kings trailed 2-1  at intermission before Omaha and the Amarillo comined for 17 goals in the second half – a dozen in the fourth quarter alone – as they rallied for a thrilling 11-9 win in the opener of the Heartland Invitational in Wichita.

Ali Sodal, an Omaha native who set season and  career (49 goals, 115 points)  scoring records for Midland University, exploded for five goals all in the final 10 minutes of the game, to lead the Kings. He also added an assist. Teammates Emmanuel Viel and Daniel Zuckweiler each added a goal and two assists for three point games.

With the game tied at 6-6, Sodal’s fireworks began, netting four goals in the space of just 3:59 to put the Kings on top 10-6.

Amarillo scored the next three, cutting its deficit to 10-9 with 51 seconds to play bfore Sodal got Omaha’s insurance goal just eight seconds after that.

Six Bombers had multi point nights, including Abel Olivas (three assists), Miguel Reyes, Julio Molina and Agustin Guerrero (two goals each), and Conrod Coulbourne (two assists).

It was the M2 season opener for both sides, part of the four-team Heartland Invitational in Wichita, who defeated the Colorado Inferno, 9-2, in Friday’s other matchup.

Saturday’s action will have the Kings meeting the Inferno at 3:05 p.m. CST and the Wings hosting the Bombers in a 7:05 p.m. CST kickoff. Sunday’s action will have the Inferno meeting the Bomers at 12 noon and Wings meeting the Kings at 3:05 p.m. Games are available to watch live on Facebook’s pay-per-view platform.
