MASL 2 Championship Weekend to be held March 31, April 1 at home of MASL Outlaws
Major Arena Soccer League 2 will be part of a unique weekend -- in conjunction with the MASL Mesquite Outlaws-- as the Texas team’s home venue will host M2’s Championship Weekend.
M2 owners unanimously approved the playoff set up which will see games Friday March 31 and Saturday, April 1, at Mesquite Arena where the MASL held it’s first ever player combine last fall. The finals will be part of a unique pro indoor soccer “tripleheader” at the Outlaws home building.
“It will be an exciting two days for our M2 teams who are looking forward as always to championship weekend,” M2 Commissioner Chris Economides said. “With our renewed close relationship with M1 this year, it’s a great time to have for the first time ever a MASL arena host our title game. The final couple weeks of our regular season is going to be an intense battle for just the four coveted spots in the semi-finals, which is just what we wanted when we set up the post-season format this year. Almost half our teams are still very much alive for the post-season, so every single M2 game from here on out has potentially huge implication for teams fighting for a spot.”
The four teams that will qualify for M2’s post-season include the top finishing team in the North, Midwest and West divisions and the best second-place finisher among the remaining teams.
Friday’s semifinals will start at 12 noon and 3 p.m. CDT, with Saturday’s third place game set to kickoff at 11:30 a.m. and the M2 championship game at 2 p.m. CDT prior to the Outlaws regularly scheduled home game against the Empire Strykers that evening.
Mesquite, coached by indoor soccer icon Tatu, currently is in a pitched battle for playoff positioning in the West Division with a 11-5-2 record.
All four games will be streamed live by M2, details of which will be announced as final plans are worked out with Mesquite and the league.
“We will work hard to make it a memorable weekend for all the M2 teams and welcome them to our home,” said Tatu. “It will be fun to host such premium games, and look forward to a great Championship weekend experience for everyone.”
