Last year's semifinalists, Amarillo and Wichita, kick off Midwest Division play Dec. 22
The Major Arena Soccer League 2 Midwest Division schedule will start Dec. 22 when teams with championship aspirations – the Wichita Wings and Amarillo Bombers – give fans at Hartman Arena a holiday treat when the two teams meet on December 22.
Amarillo and Wichita both made runs all the way to the MASL 2 semifinals last spring, and met in the championship consolation game, with the Wings taking a 13-5 win in that final match up. Meanwhile, Hartman Arena will be the site of the 2024 MASL 2 Championship Weekend April 4-7, with the Wings, traditionally one of the powers of indoor soccer for many decades now, will be looking for the city’s first ever pro indoor soccer title.
The M2 schedule features 12 games for Amarillo, El Paso Rhinos, New Mexico Runners, Wichita and the Kansas Bandits, who, by agreement of the team owners in the division, will play just three times at home, with those game at Hartman Arena as well.
Pre-season action in the division will see the El Paso Rhinos Uno Seis travel to Albuquerque to take on the fifth-year New Mexico Runners on December 16
The Bombers will open at home on January 7 when they host the Bandits. New Mexico’s home opener is December 30 when they host El Paso, who will open at home Jan. 20 also against the Bandits. The regular season concludes on the final weekend of March.
“This is a very competitive division again. I expect New Mexico, who was so ravaged with injuries last year, to be battling for a playoff spot this year, and I think El Paso will have the ability to surprise some people,” MASL 2 Commissioner Chris Economides noted. “Amarillo and Wichita speak for themselves, and we saw the Bandits play much more competitive soccer towards the end of their first season last year, so I think it’s a pretty wide open battle.”
