Henry, Martin each net two goals as Wichita Wings roll past Colorado Inferno, 9-2

Taylor Henry had two goals and added two assists as the Wichita Wings opened the Major Arena Soccer League 2 season with a 9-2 win over the Colorado Inferno Friday night at Hartman Arena in Wichita.

Wichita held a 5-1 lead at the half – on a pair of goals from Cade Martin, and single markers from Nathan Clark, Kevin Ten Eyck and  David Lucio – and pulled away in the final two quarters.

Martin was part the Wichita Eagle’s 17th annual All Metro Soccer Team after scoring 11 goals and adding 12 assists for Valley Center High School, leading the Hornets to a Class 5A regional championships.

In addition to Henry’s two second half goals, Wichita got goals from Jarrod Robbins, and Kieran Laking. The Inferno got a first half goal from Armando Gonzaelz and Robert Jacobs.

It was the M2 season opener for both sides, part of the four-team Heartland Invitational in Wichita. The Omaha Kings FC won a wild and wacky 11-9 win over the Amarillo Bombers in Friday’s other game, as the two teams combined for 17 second-half goals.
