Chase for Midwest title starts in Cedar Rapids as Raptors host Blizzard Dec. 6

TAMPA, Florida -- The chance of snow in Cedar Rapids Iowa is 100 percent on Saturday, December 6, when the Major Arena Soccer League 2 Raptors will host the Minnesota Blizzard in the opening game of the Midwest Division slate for 2025-26.

The Raptors were in the league's championship game at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, the the Blizzard will be starting their seconds season of MASL 2 play. The Raptors will welcome their northern rivals at the 9,000 seat Reliant Energy Powerhouse  in a 7 p.m. CST start.

Each of the five division teams will play a 12-game schedule, with every single division game set for Friday, Saturday or Sunday starts.

"This should be an incredibly fun division to watch. There are some established great teams with the Demon Hawks who lost the league title in double overtime last spring, the storied Wichita Wings and the return of the always tough Omaha Kings. The Raptors have had great on-field success and are reloaded and then some for this year, and Minnesota which learned plenty last season and will be improved this season," Commissioner Chris Economides noted. 

Other home openers include the Iowa Demon Hawks at 3,500 seat Buccaneer Arena on January 31 against Minnesota, and the Blizzard January 3 against the Raptors. Minnesota will play at two different sites this season while their home, the 5,000 seat Warner Coliseum, is closed for a multi-million dollar renovation. Work on the arena, located on the State Fair Grounds, is expected to be completed in time for the Blizzard to return there for the 2026-27 season.

Also, the Kings first home game at 7,800 seat Baxter Arena is set for Dec. 20 against the Raptors, and the Wichita Wings will lift the lid on their home slate at 5,000 seat Park City Arena on December 28 against Minnesota, who will be the opponent for three of the division's four other team's home openers.
