St. Charles, Missouri (October 25, 2022) – The St. Louis Ambush, members of the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), have entered into an affiliate agreement with the Iowa Demon Hawks (formerly Des Moines United FC) for the upcoming 2022-23 season. The Demon Hawks compete in the Major Arena Soccer League 2 (M2), having moved up for the upcoming season after previously competing in M3.

The M2 is the second tier in the MASL’s three-tier professional indoor soccer pyramid. It serves as a developmental league for the MASL. M2 will kick off its sixth season of action the weekend of December 10-12. Each M2 team will play a 12-game regular season.

The MASL is the top tier in professional indoor soccer in the United States and will have 14 teams, each playing a 24-game schedule, for the 2022-23 season.

The MASL encourages teams from different tiers to collaborate on player development, to share business strategies and marketing ideas and to promote the sport of professional indoor soccer in general.

St. Louis Ambush Co-Owner and CEO Shelly Clark said this agreement, “allows for collaboration between the two organizations to develop indoor players. As needs arise throughout the season, we’ll be able to look at players from the Demon Hawks to help fill roster spots. We look forward to this partnership with the Demon Hawks and feel this can be an arrangement that will benefit both clubs.”

Darwin Salas, owner of the Demon Hawks said, “It is an honor to be affiliated with such a great organization like the St. Louis Ambush and encourage all M2 teams to follow the leadership and help of our commissioners for the love and growth of professional indoor soccer.”

M2 Commissioner Chris Economides indicated it was another big step forward for M2, and was in part a byproduct of joint MASL and M2 owners meetings in Texas last week.

"This affiliate relationship is a direct result of M2 working more closely than ever with the Major Arena Soccer League owners and leadership to grow the sport in a controlled, positive, professional manner with higher standards and practices than the sport has seen in quite some time," M2 Commissioner Chris Economides said. "It is mutually beneficial to both franchises on and off the field. And the deal was finalized during the MASL meetings and player combine in Dallas last week which M2 owners and leaders also attended for the first time. It's a perfect example of the renewed dedication and vision both leagues have in professional indoor soccer."

The upcoming 2022-23 season is the tenth for the Ambush. Their home opener is slated for Black Friday, November 25, 2022 at 5:05 p.m. CT at The Family Arena in St. Charles. It is the first of a two-game series against the Kansas City Comets to open the MASL season. The Comets host the second game the next night, November 25, at Cable-Dahmer Arena in Independence.
