2019-20 Regular Season MASL 2 Champions Set to Return for 2021-2022 Season

TAMPA, Fla. – An indoor soccer juggernaut is returning to Major Arena Soccer League 2 play for the 2021-22 season.

The Chihuahua Savage, who recorded a perfect 12-0 mark in the Covid shortened 2019-20 season, have announced their intention to return to the pitch next fall when M2 will debut with a significantly expanded roster of teams in two countries.

The Savage averaged more than 11 goals a game, and had a goals differential of plus-84 in winning all the games they played that season. Their closest win came in a seven-round shootout against the Wichita Wings on Jan. 18 at Hartman Arena, site of this year’s M2 championship weekend July 17-18.

“We are excited to return to action,” said owner Joel Torres, who is serving as a host for this week’s Liga Mexicana de Fútbol Rápido Profesional (LMFRP) finals. “We are a team with a fearless heart and unwavering faith and we want to spread this spirit to all our fans.”

Torres added that he was impressed with the growth of the league, which included the recent announcements of the Chicago Mustangs and Cleveland Crunch. Another major metropolitan city in a strategically important location of the United States will be announced in the next few weeks.

“We continue in search of growth, trying to learn and improve,” he added. “We believe that M2 is the right place to do it. We share the values and purpose of the league and we want our young players to value that as well.”

M2 Commissioner Chris Economides said the Savage’s return is another key building block to help fulfill the league’s vision of growth.

“We’re thrilled to have the Savage back in the fold,” Commissioner Chris Economides said. “They and their ownership group know the sport and are involved in the sport on many levels in Mexico. Having them return to M2 starting next season fits perfectly with the rising level of expectations for quality of play and competition for 2021-22.”
